South Africa runs two very different kinds of social grant, and almost every confusion we are written to about comes from mixing them up. The SRD grant is re-decided every single month against government and bank records. A permanent grant is decided once, paid on a fixed date, and reviewed only occasionally. A household can hold more than one.

Permanent grants follow a schedule published a year at a time, always in the same order: Older Persons first, then Disability and Care Dependency, then the children's grants and Grant-in-Aid. Money that is not withdrawn stays in the account, so there is no reason to queue on the day itself.

The SRD grant does not work that way. It has no fixed payday — it is released in batches through the second half of the month, and your date only becomes certain once your own approved month shows one beside it. An approved month sitting without a date is normal for the first while, and reapplying does not move it.
No official step costs a cent
Nobody can approve, speed up or unlock a grant for payment. Any person or website asking for money is running a scam. Applications are free at https://srd.sassa.gov.za for SRD and at https://services.sassa.gov.za for permanent grants.

Approved means that month passed every check. A date appears only once your bank details are verified and your payment is placed in a batch, which can take days rather than hours. Do not reapply — it does not speed anything up. What releases the date, and when to act.
